ORLANDO, Fla. (July 15, 2009)–At the ICAST Show today, Keith Sutton of Alexander, Arkansas was introduced as the new executive director of the Future Fisherman Foundation. A former executive with the Boy Scouts of America and past president of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, Sutton has worked 30 years as a free-lance writer, photographer, editor and lecturer, and served 19 years as editor of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s award-winning conservation magazine Arkansas Wildlife. He has written eleven books, including “The Crappie Book,” “Fishing for Catfish,” “Fishing Arkansas” and “Pro Tactics: Catfish.”

Fly Tying Basics at Kentucky’s Salato Center August 1
Frankfort, Ky. - Join members of the Frankfort Fly Fishing Club for a basic introduction to fly tying and techniques of fly fishing from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Fly tying can be a challenging art, but few things are more rewarding than catching a fish on a lure you made yourself. Tying your own flies is fun and can save you money on your next fishing trip. All participants will take home the flies they make and get a chance to try their hand at casting a fly rod. The cost of the program is $35 and is open for ages 9 and older. Registration is required.

The Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Management Cooperative announces the availability of a final Strategic Plan for Lake Champlain Fisheries.
The Strategic Plan, which was prepared by the Cooperative’s Fisheries Technical Committee, provides a framework for implementing the Cooperative’s coordinated fisheries management programs. It outlines fish community goals and objectives and describes the role of each of the agencies. University of Vermont Professor Ellen Marsden, Ph.D., led the Lake Champlain Cooperative’s Technical Committee in developing the new Strategic Plan. According to Dr. Marsden, “this plan outlines the guiding principles for the management of Lake Champlain’s fishery resources, and establishes priorities for protection and restoration of fish populations and their habitat”.
