ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 27, 2010) - The Anglers’ Legacy program is introducing new print public service announcements (PSAs), the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) announced today. The PSAs contain dynamic and relevant new images and messaging, which reflect the program’s increased efforts to mobilize America’s avid boaters and anglers to introduce newcomers to the sport. Outdoor enthusiasts will be encouraged to ‘make a promise that’s easy to keep’ and take someone new fishing. The new full page PSAs are available in three creative concepts, each with a separate theme; memories made with friends, passing down the legacy to new generations, and the importance of conservation and protecting our waterways.
On January 1, 2010, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) launched the National Saltwater Angler Registry. The 2006 Reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) included a provision establishing a federal registry of saltwater anglers in order to improve recreational saltwater fishing data collection.

PETA has announced that Ellen DeGeneres is its “Woman of the Year” for 2009. The 2008 award winner was Oprah Winfrey.
PETA decided to give this award to DeGeneres after she used her television show to talk about veganism and giving up animal products. PETA also named as “Man of the Year,” Tim Gunn, who is an on air “fashion designer” on Lifetime’s program “Project Runway.”
Bloomington, IL. — Last May at Carlyle Lake, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) conducted the first high school bass fishing state championships in the nation and world-renowned outdoorsmen Babe Winkelman was there to chronicle the entire event. Winkelman served as the guest speaker at the 2009 IHSA Bass Fishing State Final fish fry for participants and coaches that preceded the state final tournament. Winkelman’s camera crew was present for the entire weekend, filming for an episode of the nationally syndicated show Babe Winkelman’s Good Fishing. The IHSA bass fishing state final episode is scheduled to air for the first time on Saturday, February 6 and then again on Saturday, April 24. According to the show’s website, the Saturday program airs at 6:30 a.m. (central) on all of the Fox Sports Regional Networks. Fox Sports Midwest will air the show in most of Illinois. Viewers should check local listings for confirmation.
