In August 2009 the Ecudorian tuna fleet will be under a 59 day fishing ban. This is likely to raise tuna prices over the next few months as supply will be sharply curtailed
Note: Ecuador supplied 88 000 m/t of canned tuna to the EU in 2008.

Lae in Papa New Guinea is the beneficiary of a $20m investment from China companies for the construction of a tuna processing plant, able to process 350m/t per day, employing 3000.
